Can AI Write a Good CV? The Truth About AI CV Writing

Professional reviewing AI-generated CV content

I know… I can use AI to write a CV for me!

Ah, AI. A pioneering and revolutionary technological concept that dates back to the days of WW2, AI is now becoming an increasingly prevalent part of our lives. Whether you use it to compose a professional-sounding work email or to create a fun avatar of yourself, it seems that the majority use of AI seems almost inevitable.

So, if AI is a helpful and intelligent tool, that means you can use it to write an effective CV for you in seconds, right?

Well, no, not really.

A CV written using artificial intelligence will never replace a CV that has been through the eyes, brain and ears of a human being. It doesn’t know you and it is not interested in you or curious about you. In the AI-written CVs that I have seen, there is an absence in the richness that comes when a human being utilises both their capacity to build a relationship with an individual and to analyse the needs of a job role and organisation and convey this effectively on the page.

Having said this, AI does have its place in the recruitment process. We know in the CV writing world that the use of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) is becoming more commonplace. However, this is not perfect and at times, due to the imperfect, robotic and overly general nature of ATS, it can mean that very viable and valuable candidates are being overlooked because their CV is not formatted correctly or is one page too long.

As CV Writers, Danielle and I do not use AI. Our stance is that if our clients have requested our services as experienced and skilled writers, they are paying for us to apply this expertise and to work dynamically with them to achieve their desired results. This symbiotic relationship is just not possible with Artificial Intelligence. Should you like a CV personally written by lovely human beings, please feel free to contact us!
